The MOJO Initiative Helping Student Athlete Focus

EDUCATE. EMPOWER. SUCCEED.

The MOJO Initiative was created to provide student athletes the ability to understand and appreciate the leadership roles they are often expected to play in their schools, among their peers and within their communities. As a culture, we hold athletes to a “role model” standard but do not actually help our children understand what is expected of them, nor do we provide them with the tools necessary to assume this role. As we label elite athletes at younger ages, we must educate them about these expectations and empower them with the tools they need to gain the confidence necessary to assume the leadership roles we have thrust upon them by virtue of their athletic abilities.

The goal of The MOJO Initiative is to help every student athlete strive to become the best versions of themselves and to provide its student athletes with the tools and skills necessary to achieve that goal and to be a positive influence on the people they encounter. This goal is achieved by empowering our youth with confidence, by giving them the tools and the voice to invoke positive change and by teaching them practical skills to succeed in their expected leadership role.By combining youth leadership workshops, conflict resolution programs and community service opportunities with highly competitive athletic programs, the student athlete not only learns to excel at their chosen sport, but is poised to succeed and excel in all parts of their lives, now and as they grow into adults.

TMI currently offers The MOJO Volleyball Club which is overseen by Executive Director Shannon Loso. The MOJO Volleyball Club, (MOJO VBC) has teams available for tryouts ranging in ages from 10U to 16U. By sponsoring its own youth athletic teams, hundreds of student athletes will have access to the programs available through The MOJO Initiative. As TMI’s programs expand, it is our goal, through our fundraising efforts, to offer TMI Youth Leadership and Conflict Resolution programs and workshops to youth athletic teams throughout the community, in schools and in particular, disadvantaged communities, at little or no cost to the teams or schools.
